okay, let's see how this works!!! I'm trying to start a new discussion. Finally got tickets for the reunion and am anxious to see everyone. don't forget the cut off date of May 1st!! Have a happy holiday.
This is cool!! Harry, you seem to be on the right track. I'm still waiting for registrations here. As Tanya said, the hotel will only guarantee the rate up till May 1. After that you are on your own for the special rate.
Well, if you got this far, I just got home last evening. The trip around Arizona was wonderful! The first day we only went as far as the cool pine trees and stopped in Pinetop. Dinner that evening was memorable. We ate at a place called Charley Clarks. Been in continous business ever since 1938. Great food!
The next day we drove up through the Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert and then on to the Hubble Trading Post and finally on to Chinle. That evening we drove along the south rim of Canyon de Chelly. Absolutely spectacular. Food that evening was nothing special. The next morning we drove the north rim of the canyon and were just as amazed. Next time I will spend two days here so we can spend a day inside the canyon with some of my friends.
Then we went just up into Utah so we could drive the length of Monument Valley, the place where john Ford filmed many of his movies including John Wayne's "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon". Fantastico!! We also stopped at the Navajo Nation Park headquarters for lunch and a brief drive down into the park.
That evening we pushed on to Cameron on the east entrance to the Grand Canyon. This is an old trading post established in 1916 or so. Outstanding rooms in the motel and great food in the restaurant. Tony in the Gallery played his flute for us and, for only playing for three years, he was great!
We then drove around on the south rim of the Grand Canyon, stopping at El Tovar lodge. Did it pour!!! Hail and all the trimmings. So we hit the bar. It soon stopped and we drove along the rim back to Cameron for another evening and another great meal.
The next morning we drove down to Flagstaff and then down through Oak Creek Canyon and on to Red Rock Country in the Sedona area. This was also magnificent. Then on to Phoenix where I dropped everyone off friday afternoon at the Fiesta Inn where we had the first reunion five years ago.
I want to again thank everyone who came to Tucson and spent the weekend with us. The hotel was outstanding, food was fabulous, those attending were simpatico, the pool was great. All in all we had an absolutely super time. The trip after the party was just frosting on the cake!!!
